What are the main types of solar glass?

Jul 01, 2025

Solar Glass is a key encapsulation material for solar cell modules, mainly used to protect the cells from environmental erosion (such as moisture, dust, mechanical shock, etc.), and at the same time, it has high light transmittance to maximize the utilization of sunlight. The following is an introduction to the main types of solar glass:

A. Ultra-white textured glass
a. Process: It is formed by calendering, with special patterns on the surface to reduce light reflection and increase light transmittance.
b. Features: High light transmittance (≥91.5%), high strength, and strong weather resistance. It is currently the mainstream type of photovoltaic glass.

B. Ultra-white float glass
a. Process: Similar to ordinary float glass, but with higher purity of raw materials and lower iron content.
b. Features: The light transmittance is slightly lower than that of rolled glass (about 89% to 91%), but the surface is flatter, making it suitable for certain special components (such as thin-film batteries).

C. AR Coated glass
a. Process: Apply an anti-reflection or anti-reflective coating on the surface of ultra-clear glass.
b. Features: The light transmittance can be increased to 93% to 94%, significantly enhancing the power generation efficiency of the components.
