What is BIPV patterned glass?

Dec 17, 2025

1. Definition and Process
Patterned glass is made by applying rollers with specific patterns to the surface of molten glass and pressing it. One or both sides of it have regular or irregular concave and convex textures. BIPV patterned glass is a type of patterned glass applied in the field of photovoltaic building integration and is usually used in combination with solar cell modules.
2. Performance characteristics
A. Optical performance: The light transmittance of patterned glass decreases at long wavelengths, and the short-circuit current is slightly lower under standard test conditions.
B. Aesthetics and Functionality: The texture on the surface of patterned glass can blur the metal components of solar cells, enhance the integration of buildings, make photovoltaic modules more harmonious with the building's appearance, and combine aesthetics with power generation functions.
3. Application scenarios
It is widely applied in building curtain walls, roofs and other parts, especially suitable for vertical south-facing building facades. It can balance aesthetics and performance in the limited space of urban buildings, meeting the dual demands of urban buildings in energy utilization and appearance design.
