Integrated Development Of Wind Power And Photovoltaic Energy

Oct 06, 2022

On September 21, the national power industry statistics from January to August released by the National Energy Administration showed that as of the end of August, the national wind power installed capacity was 344.5GW, and the photovoltaic cumulative was 349.9GW. So far, photovoltaic has reversed wind power and has become the third largest power source in the country.

At the beginning of the 21st century, when photovoltaic just entered the stage of large-scale commercialization in EU countries, my country's wind power industry has entered the stage of industrialization development after early demonstration and industrialization exploration. Since 2003, under the continuous promotion of the franchise bidding system and the "Renewable Energy Law", my country's wind power development scale and local manufacturing capacity have been rapidly improved. In 2006, the newly installed capacity of domestic wind power reached 1.35GW, a year-on-year increase of 70%.

Until 2008, also starting from the franchise project, the curtain of commercial photovoltaic power plants in my country was officially opened. As of the end of 2011, the cumulative installed capacity of domestic wind power has reached 47.84GW, and the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic is only 3GW.

However, carrying semiconductor genes, the cost of photovoltaic has dropped rapidly, and the scale of the terminal market has soared rapidly. Especially from 2016 to 2019, the annual installed capacity of photovoltaic exceeded that of wind power, and the gap between the cumulative installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic rapidly narrowed.

In 2020, stimulated by the decline of subsidies, onshore wind power is "rushing to install", and the newly installed capacity of wind power reached a new high of 71.67GW that year. In 2021, the "countdown" of subsidies for offshore wind power and household photovoltaic, the newly installed capacity of wind power will reach 47.57GW, and the newly installed photovoltaic capacity will reach 54.88GW.

Entering the era of comprehensive parity, from January to August 2022, the new installed capacity of wind and solar will increase by 10% year-on-year, while the new installed capacity of photovoltaic in the same period will increase by as much as 106% year-on-year. In addition, according to a development company, high site selection requirements and noise problems have also become factors that limit the pace of onshore wind power development, and wind power development is concentrated in a wider offshore area.

According to the statistics of securities institutions, the bidding capacity of wind power projects has exceeded 80GW since the beginning of this year, and it is expected to exceed 100GW in the whole year, laying a certainty for the high wind power installed capacity this year and even next year.

Affected by the terminal market, the wind power and photovoltaic industry chains have also shown a situation of "ice and fire".

The soaring price of photovoltaic modules is affected by the unbalanced supply and demand of upstream raw materials and the out-of-control price and then the downward transmission; on the other hand, it is also the core of the explosion of terminal demand, especially supported by overseas markets, and the proportion of overseas shipments of TOP5 module companies in the first half of the year up to 74%.

However, the "going out" of domestic wind turbines is slightly slow, which also leads to insufficient bargaining power and fierce competition in the domestic market.

It is worth noting that wind power and photovoltaic, both of which are new energy sources, also show some common characteristics. For example, on the technical side, in pursuit of lower cost of electricity, wind turbines and photovoltaic equipment have become "larger" at the same time. At present, the longest wind power blade in the world is 123 meters long, and the power of a single machine has increased from an average of 1.5MW in 2011 to a current maximum of 16MW (offshore). The size of the silicon wafer used in photovoltaic modules is up to 210mm, or even 230mm, and the module power climbs to 700Wp .

In addition, wind power and photovoltaic companies are showing a trend of mutual integration. The complete machine giants Mingyang Intelligent and Goldwind Technology have been involved in photovoltaic. The former deploys photovoltaic manufacturing, while the latter grabs photovoltaic power station resources; photovoltaic companies Risen Energy, Jinko Technology, etc. " Enter the wind power market.

Of course, the mutual integration of wind power and photovoltaic enterprises is not a recent occurrence, especially as the central power enterprises such as National Energy Group and Huaneng swept the photovoltaic industry, and the large owners of wind and solar power plants are highly overlapping; in addition, equipment manufacturers Sungrow and Hopewind have also crossed the wind and solar power plant for many years. field.

With the construction of a new power system under the "dual carbon" goal, the integrated development of wind power and photovoltaic renewable energy has finally become a general trend. While generating new energy integrated enterprises, energy efficient coordination will also become an important issue.
