What is the TOPCon modules (N-type technology)?

Topcon is an efficient solar cell technology. It significantly improves the conversion efficiency through a unique passivated contact structure and has become one of the mainstream technologies in the photovoltaic industry.

A. Topcon batteries are improved on the basis of the traditional PERC structure, with key differences in the back design:
1. Front
Similar to PERC, it adopts a silicon nitride anti-reflection layer and metal grid lines.
2. Back:
(1) SiO₂ passivation layer: Chemically passivated interface defects.
(2) Doped Poly-Si layer: Achieving conductivity and field-effect passivation.
(3) Full back metallization: Reduces shading loss (PERC requires opening holes for contact, while Topcon can be fully covered).

B. Manufacturing process flow
Topcon has a high compatibility with PERC production lines. The main new steps include:
1. Back cleaning and texturing: Forming a textured surface structure.
2. Tunneling oxide layer deposition: Ultrathin SiO₂ is prepared by thermal oxidation or atomic layer deposition (ALD).
3. Polycrystalline silicon layer deposition: Preparation of doped Poly-Si by low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD).
4. Annealing and etching: Activate doping and remove edge coating.
5. Metal wire: Screen printed or copper electroplated electrode.
