EVA-the encapsulant of PV modules

Apr 28, 2023

EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) is an important component of photovoltaic (PV) cells. It is a type of thermoplastic copolymer that is commonly used as an encapsulant in solar modules. EVA is known for its good adhesion to glass, excellent weatherability, UV resistance, and high transmittance. These properties make it an ideal material for encapsulating PV cells, protecting them from environmental factors, and maximizing their energy output.

The EVA encapsulation process involves placing the PV cells between two sheets of glass, coated with a layer of EVA, and then bonding them together using heat and pressure. The EVA layer acts as a moisture barrier, preventing water from entering the module and causing corrosion or delamination of the PV cells. It also provides mechanical support for the module and protects it from physical damage.

The performance of EVA as an encapsulant is dependent on several factors, including its thickness, degree of cross-linking, and adhesion to both the PV cell and glass. PV modules with high-quality EVA encapsulants can achieve a longer lifespan, greater efficiency, and improved durability.

In summary, EVA plays an essential role in the manufacturing of PV modules. Its strong adhesion, weather resistance, and UV stability make it an ideal choice for encapsulating solar cells, protecting them from the elements, and maximizing their energy output.
