Semi-tempered photovoltaic glass is one of the commonly used front panel materials in photovoltaic modules, lying between ordinary glass and fully tempered glass. It enhances its mechanical strength and impact resistance through heat treatment processes while maintaining a relatively high light transmittance.
1. Basic concepts
A. Definition:
Semi-tempered photovoltaic glass is made by heating it to A temperature close to the softening point and then uniformly cooling it. A certain compressive stress layer is formed on the surface, and its strength is 1.5 to 2 times higher than that of ordinary glass, but lower than that of fully tempered glass.
B. Differences from fully tempered glass:
a. Strength: The strength of fully tempered glass is 3 to 5 times that of ordinary glass, while that of semi-tempered glass is 1.5 to 2 times.
b. Breaking form: Fully tempered glass breaks into small particles, while semi-tempered glass has larger cracks and may have sharp fragments.
c. Thermal stability: The temperature difference resistance of fully tempered glass can reach over 200℃, while that of semi-tempered glass is approximately 100℃.
2. Manufacturing process
A. Original sheet selection: Usually, ultra-white embossed glass is used, with A light transmittance of over 91%.
B. Heating: Heat the glass to around 650℃ in the tempering furnace to soften it.
C. Cooling: Uniform cooling is achieved through controllable air flow to form surface compressive stress.
D. Cutting and Coating: Some semi-tempered glass needs to be cut first and then heat-treated, or coated with anti-reflective film.
